Aswathama The Immortal game development in India

Every level in this game brings out an interesting adventure exploration as the player moves forward. In this game, Ashwathama is seen searching for the ‘Gem’ in this Kaliyuga as per the curse of Lord Krishna. The different background settings in this game play revolve around forests, valleys, flowers, thunder and other natural elements of the Earth. In short, in all the 21 levels, the player will unlock the new powers and spells by collecting the magic crystals and fighting with Demi God at the end of each level. There is no real winning for the game as the game has three different winning methods. In order to bring out such an interesting concept, the team referred to various sources like Sanskrit and Pali books. They even interacted with Sadhus of Himalayan . This in turn helped the Virtualinfocom team to use some specific color textures and variations throughout the game.

We have tried our level best to insert natural colors and old structures of ancient India to bring out the art and culture and combine the science behind it.The team started working on this game from Mid February 2013 and at present it has reached the production stage.
Ashwathama will be available on iOS, Android and for PC/ desktop users.

adventure game - folk tales of Bengal- Sukhu dukhu

Targeted at the age groups of seven and above, Sukhu Dukhu is a single player, adventurous mobile game and the concept development of the game is spearheaded by Arijit Bhattacharyya . With 25 game levels, Sukhu Dukhu starts with a simple, 15 year old poor village girl player who is running after the wind to catch the cottons that the wind takes away from her. While running after the wind to reach the cottons, the little girl faces numerous hurdles including a cow asking for help and the game player now has a choice whether to help the cow or to ignore and run behind the wind to take back the cottons.
If the user helps the cow, wins a prize and then goes on to the next level of the game and the journey continues. As the game progresses, the character starts to become beautiful or ugly, depending upon the times she has helped the animals or whether she chooses to skip helping the animals.

The game sets a village ambiance with folk music background score and pointing out on the software technicalities, the game is created with classical animation technique, GIMP, Blender Is used as the game engine. For bringing about the game animation, the classical light box working method is used by the team. Speaking more on the animation medium used for Sukhu Dukhu, Arijit, asserts, We've used 3D technology for the game engine and made the choice of using classical animation because the character is wearing a sari with ethnic Bengali ornaments and we wanted to execute a smooth, old cultural and subtle feel.
According to Arijit, giving the old and cultural Bengal look and feel to the game was a challenge and the team visited many villages to understand the kind of dresses the villagers wore during 60’s. The entire game is given a green look and feel to depict the freshness of nature.

monetization through game

Can playing games make you earn? No. I’m not talking about the viral IPL or the FIFA or even the Olympics. I am talking about video game-play. Yes. They can. Though, it would be an exaggeration if I say you can make your living through game-play. But certainly you can easily earn a fair amount of pocket money to afford more games & can add an extra bit of fun & excitement to your gaming-life. And if you are a core gamer, then chances of earning a ransom are huge & bright.
But things are not as easy as it sounds. It’s not that you aim at your opponent & you are paid for that. The process, like any other field, involves wisdom, expertise & labour.
  • Ways of being an Earner Gamer:
  •  Become an e-sport athlete.
  •  Become a game-tester.
  •  Share your knowledge-beans.
  •  Write about games.
Loads of tournaments are held globally these days, so you will never be short of chances to show your skills. Participate. Win. Trust me, you can win millions & eventually can become a star.
If you are a pro-gamer, look for corporate sponsorship. The corporate sector is patronizing the gamers through decades.
As the name suggests, game-testers get to play games while testing & you get paid for that. You get the security of a job. You get to play a game even before publishing. Even before anyone else tries. Isn’t that exciting?
Another way of earning is sharing your knowledge. How? Upload your games to YouTube. Earn huge likes & get paid.
You can share your knowledge by some other means also.
a)     Get hired by some websites who are in search of writers, reviewers.
b)    Be a blogger.

Wait. There are lots more in these to look into. Be careful before trying these means.
Things to keep in mind:
  • To become an e-sport athlete, you need to be a serious, hardcore gamer. An easygoing attitude will NOT work.
  •  The job of a game-tester is not easy. You may not always have the golden chance to play games according to your choice. You’ll play only those games that you will be asked for. Also, the work is quite tedious to some people as the duty is more about scrutinizing the problems & listing down the bugs than mere game-play. The wage is also average. The working hours are long at times, depending on the difficulty of a game.
  • Think twice before you go on with a contract with any website. Check out their credibility. Read the Terms & Conditions very carefully. Don’t just go away with the stunning looks & fake promises of the site(s).
  •  Gaming is a very dynamic & competitive field. To be successful here you need to have a sound knowledge & a progressive outlook. So don’t just jump off with a little learning. Know all the nooks & corners of a game.
  •  In case you started your blog, then my advice would be, keep writing. Don’t just stop after a few articles. Keep writing. Keep the continuity. Once you start publishing & get a few likes or comments, this means people are reading & they are keeping a vigil on your posts. And you certainly don’t want people to stop talking about the posts. Neither you want them to take you less seriously. Do you?
Earning through game-play is not a child’s play. If it had made you dream of quitting your job or leaving school, then I’m sorry to say that this dream will not come true, dear. You have to be equally dedicated to your work, oops, games. As you are reading this, I’m sure you are already a dedicated one. Still if you are not, then I bet, the plethora of the options mentioned is tempting enough to make you one. So what are you waiting for? The gaming industry is waiting for you.

All the aspirant freshers, keen to join the Gaming Industry? Even already joined a reputed institution & you are being taught MAYA in the name of Game Design? Wait ! If you are one of these guys, This one is a must-read for you. Beware of some ‘funny  myths’  about  the Game Industry.  Rather, I would say, every segment of the industry is infected with this myth-virus, game –play, game development, game design, game programming, game testing-what not? Today I am sticking  to game design only. These completely fabricated stories are not only downright wrong, also these are spoiling the huge talent-pool in India. let’s have a look :
Most Popular  Myths about Game Designers-
×       Game designers play games all day long! That’s what they are paid for!
×       A Game designer is same as a Game Artist.
×       A game engine is a multimedia software; and
×       Animation & Gaming are same.
Funny, huh? Well, dear, to put it plainly, Animation is one-way while Gaming is always Two-way.
A game engine is a software system used for developing the games. A game can be made 2D or 3D depending on the use of the game engine. These game engines basically move the creative arts through programming.
A Game Artist deals with the interactive graphic development that includes character creation, scene design etc. But a Game Designer designs the rules of the game, setting of the game, story and characters, props such as weapons and vehicles, different ways the game may be played.
Game development is NOT a child’s play.  Rather it’s a well-planned system with a set of rules created by highly skilled people. You have met the Avatars already.
Myth-busters about Game Designing
A Game designer certainly plays games but not for game-play; rather to know the look & feel of the game when presented to the audience.
Game designers define the concept of the game & communicates the whole idea to the development team. He is responsible for incorporating any new art creation & programming in the GDD. The design process undergoes many stages. After the initial research, the Game Designer puts together the ‘Concept Document’ for the team members to convince them that the game is worth taking forward. In the next phase, a playable prototype of the game is prepared by a small team of artists & programmers who work with the Game Designer in close collaboration. A Game Designer decides what will happen in the game, when, why & how. they also may be responsible for creating the story of the game including characters, setting & plot. He also trains the Game-Tester to play the game for the quality assurance.
game design India
Anyone who comes up with an idea CAN’T be a Game Designer. They need to know logic as well.He is someone who is aware of the user’s need & flexibility.
People think that Game Design means Designing the game using MAYA or by simply animating some characters with background. NO. A Game Designer is NOT a Graphic Designer or Animator. He feels for the target audience & communicates the best possible idea to the rest of the team.
Some 3D modelling artists with their odd concept of the Industry, apply for Game Designer’s job to me. Some apply for game development jobs. “Have you the relevant experience in Game Developing or Game Art?”- I ask. The immediate reply is “yes”. But to my dismay, while interviewing, I get to know that they went through some ‘crash course’ from some ABC institutes and only knows how to do modelling or they are “specialized in texturing and lighting using a 3D software”.
There are some popped-up institutions who teach ‘multimedia’ (Who don’t know the difference between Multimedia application and ‘MULTIMEDIA’), started a course called ‘Gaming’ soon after the gaming industry started to flourish! Funny indeed. I really can’t understand what these wise men refer to by the word Gaming. Game design? Game development? Game art? Or Game testing?? & the surprise doesn’t end here. Their dazzling course structure pokes me to know more. I ask them ‘what do you teach in Gaming?’ ‘Game-design’ is the usual reply I get. The next shock comes when I ask them what engine they teach & the answer is ‘Maya’!
For God’s sake, Maya is NOT a game engine! It is used in 3D animation technology for modelling, rigging, skinning, animation. However, you can make objects/characters using Maya for the game engines, which may be called GAME MODELLING, or GAME ANIMATION but never ever GAME DESIGN.
Oh yeah!  MAYA reminded me of something more, or else, ‘SOMEONE’ more… Once in 2001, I was popularly thought to have a girlfriend whose name was MAYA!  Don’t panic. Someone asked me what I had been doing. I replied that I had been taking an online course of  ‘Maya ’…&  you can guess the rest of the story.  LOL.
Jokes apart, these institutes claim to make a brand-new game designer within 6 months while they themselves know absolutely nothing!  Back in 1998, when we sailed off with teaching game art, game design, game programming & game development, some ‘wise men’ took or rather snatched contents from our websites & started parallel courses namely Game Designing where they teach Flash. After 2008, many institute  started teaching game designing with the same concept of  flash  design; which in no way is Game Designing not Game Art. I would have no complain if it could serve you guys. But sadly, since then they are befooling students with a wrong concept, a wrong course & an alluring classroom ambiance and  you are not enough lucky to escape.
One of my students had already been the victim of their show-off.  After doing one year’s course from our institute ,he went to Bangalore & joined some reputed institute to do an advanced course on Game Art. Within twenty days he came back & told us that no institute offered a such detailed course as we did. In fact, we taught him 3 game engines on game art & logic. But what he found there, was an eye-opener for all of us. He found that those institute only give training on 2D graphic design or 3D modelling .. there are no concept of game art no use of low poly , nothing using a simple Blender (which is so simple to train up with) or game development pipelines . Thats it ! No details, no practical work ! He himself joined our advanced course & proudly told ‘You people are the best, Sir’.
‘Nothing like stealing if it goes undetected’. But sadly, they get caught. Still they act shameless. They  make a false enquiry to our institute & branches to know the course content! I wish that could help them. Poor guys! I request you not to nip the students in the bud  for money.
No blame-game is going on here. I am just trying to show you the truth. And believe it or not, the students have their fair share in the lack of awareness. They get tempted by the  dazzling beauty of the butcher institutes, pay a hefty amount, waste time, come out with valueless certificates & finds no place for themselves in the industry. Dear students, if all these make sense to you then why don’t you do your study online itself?  Next time, please don’t go by the looks. At least you can always cross-check the  info on the internet. I am sure you all know how to find the useful links.
There is no shortcut to success. There is no crash course for Game Design. You can’t do game design if you don’t know the difference between Art and Logic , FPS & RPG. You can’t do characterisation if you are not acquainted with the character details. Can you tell me why can’t Hulk fly? How does Thor fly? Why Green Lantern is Green ? How many lanterns are there and what’s the meaning of their colors ? How you can think of an Indian character which will look like a science fiction character? How to optimise the memory of a game? What will be the target audience for a game before you design it ? If your institute didn’t  teach you to think on this then sadly, you are not yet ready to be a game designer. Sorry, a fresher can’t suddenly be a game designer.
That MAYA defined my relationship status didn’t make me as sad as the lack of  the awareness did. What could be more painful than to see the supposed wise men suffering from the syndrome of ‘a little learning is a dangerous thing’?  what can be more disappointing than to see the parents preventing their children from choosing the Gaming Industry as their mainstream career fearing that the careers will be doomed?  Believe me, I had to & still have to bear with such stupid questions from the parents.  Even if some ‘good boy or girl’ dares to pick up this career option, s/he is taken as the odd man out! Blame it on the virus of the misconceptions.
It takes a lot of hard work by the skilled people to create the ‘wow-moment’ for the gamer. You may be the next savvy Game Designer. You never know! The skill may be latent in you. But I shall not say ‘Give it a try’ , because it’s not a matter of joke. That you will go to a wrong institute, will pay a ransom & then will come out with nothing-is certainly I don’t want. Rather I shall say READ, KNOW & then GO FOR LEARNING.

Future Scope Of Animation

Category:

The future of Animation lies in the current crop of audience & their perception. Are you basking in the Oskar glory of Life of Pi?If yes, then dive into the deep of the matter. They are saying something called CAVE (Cloud Animation & Visual Effects) did most of the magic. You are not much into animation, but you enjoyed it anyway. Didn’t you?
A year back, You joined the worldwide spree about The Adventures of Tintin; Avatar & was amazed by the ‘near human’ cartoons. Back to your very own drawing room, the little animated fly of Makkhi must have surprised you by its potential if not by the vengeful actions. The tiny tots are glued to cartoon channels, video/mobile games ; they remind you of your childhood & at times, you too join them. Why should children have all the fun? Generation gap does exist, but certainly not in front of Tom & Jerry or Mickey Mouse.
The amount of giant labour that goes behind these stupendous creations, is quite awe inspiring. A typical animation movie requires minimum 5oo animators! So the splendour of the Animation Industry can be easily assumed. Though the target audience of Animation is mainly children. The adults find it innovative as well as refreshing too. While children love both 2D & 3D animation, with the surge of the 3D animation, young adults are mostly hooked on 3D. In fact, the popularity of 3D has affected the 2D market but in practical.. if someone knows ANIMATION technology is not a problem for him/her as Animation is the skillset.. and software or what we call MULTIMEDIA is a medium to show it . However, once the hype cools down, it can be well said that both 2D & 3D will go hand in hand.Animation don’t related with software .. software only enhance the speed of work, Animation can be done with a simple lightbox with paper pencil and colors (I am talking about 2D). Probably I will touch upon the gaming field in another writeup as ANIMATION and GAME DESIGN or GAME DEVELOPMENT or GAME ART are not at all same :) .. as this title is future scope of animation so we will stick to only the scope of it :)
“Play, so you may be serious”- This is probably the catch-phrase for youngsters these days. They are loving games & this invariably refers to a momentum growth of 3D mobile games. The gaming industry is booming. Now, most video games use poly models resulting lower speed. Very soon, advanced video cards will be used for higher speed. The development of future gaming, however, depends on the newer innovations in the field of Animation. The success graph & future prospect of the gaming industry clearly signals that the Animation industry is poised to be the biggest crowd puller in near future.
  • The major segments in which the success of the Animation lie, are- 2D, 3D gaming, Multimedia, Web-design & VFX. Animation is a creative industry for the creative people. Depending on one’s aspiration, creative skills, experience & expertise, the Animation Industry has to offer a colourful palate with high-paying, one of the most promising career options. Apart from the PSUs, private & home production houses are always there to start & flourish your career as an animator. Sectors in which animation works are sold like hot cakes are-
  • Advertising
  • Online & print media
  • Films
  • TV commercials
  • Theatre
  • E-learning
  • Interactive classroom
  • Entertainment industry
  • Medical Industry
  • Corporate presentations
  • Plants and mechinary
  • E- business
Also, in animation field, one can assume different roles, such as-
  • Amateur animator
  • Concept artist
  • Character animator
  • 2D animator
  • Texture artist
  • 3D modelling and texturing artist
  • Key-frame animator
  • Rendering artist
  • Roto artist
  • VFX Artist
  • 3D animator & counting.

It requires an organised effort, patience, extreme discipline & good research skill. A junior animator may start his career with 12k which may go up to as hefty as 40k depending on his creativity, experience & expertise.
The scope of animation is huge all over the world. But in India, well, the future is vast, bright & the market is in dire need of good animators. Here, the Animation industry is still at a budding stage though in recent times, thanks to the spread of digital media, people are showing more interest. Indian Animation Industry is relatively young. The first Indian animated educational film was Ek Anek Aur Ekta. Roadside Romeo is India’s first attempt of 3D animation. Newer movies are of course better & much advanced. Take the example of Hanuman.
India is a favoured destination for relatively low-cost production & large base of skilled animators. Outsourcing is the chief means of the Animation industry. Yet, the indigenous market is gradually waking up. Outside India, the market is more mature & the media strategy is friendly to the Animation Industry. In India, till now, only mythological concepts are universally granted for animation. Films that tried otherwise, like Toonpur Ka Superhero couldn’t claim success. While children associate the animation mainly with ‘cartoons’, adults find the storylines too simple & superficial. The infrastructure & minuscule investment are some other hurdles.
But India has power of producing exceptionally original work.  The Indian Animation Industry is supposed to reach a growth of 5,400 crore by the end of 2014. This is just 2% of the tremendous growth potential. A healthy growth has started from the end of 2011. Indian animation students are leaving footprints on several international projects.
Inflation, like all other sectors, does affect Animation too but in a relatively meagre quantity as of 25%. Chance is always for the dedicated ones & fresh minds loaded with ideas. Making animated human characters is a challenge because accuracy is flawlessly expected. In the future, it will be indistinguishable from the real actions, as expected. Improvement in the existing infrastructure & emergence of new entrepreneurial start-ups will help the Animation industry take up the BPO model which in turn will boost up the economy & man-power.
The rich talent pool of India is truly enviable (Because some institute offers MULTIMEDIA instead of ANIMATION) . Only it has to be properly nurtured.  Loads of animation training colleges are there. Virtualinfocom is a leading in this sector & has pioneered since 1998. All are creative. We just need to realise our potential. Virtualinfocom helps to bring out the inherent entrepreneurial skills with the utmost care. A flair for drawing & sketching is all what takes to learn Animation. Virtualinfocom devotedly offers specialized training in 2D & 3D animation along with advanced knowledge of the principles of Traditional Animation like squash & stretch, anticipation, animation design sense, Digital animation programming etc. The Animation Industry is as vast as an ocean. As days will roll by, the need of a shade of the fantasy world will definitely be felt more, and the scope of creating a niche for oneself in the industry will be brighter as well. The goal is not always to imitate live actions, but to create a perfect fantasy world with real-time rendering.
